Service

Toilet replacement and installation

Replacing a cracked, stained or unreliable toilet, fitting basins and vanity units, and sorting running cisterns, with the old fittings taken away.

Replacing a toilet like for like

A straightforward swap starts with isolating the water and draining the cistern. The old toilet is disconnected, lifted out and taken away, and the soil pipe opening is capped while we work. The floor and the connector are checked before the new pan goes in, because a toilet that has leaked often leaves softened boards or a perished connector behind. The new toilet is then fixed down firmly, reconnected and tested through several flushes.

A like-for-like close-coupled swap on the existing waste position is usually a short visit. The quote confirms what is included before work starts.

Close-coupled, back-to-wall and wall-hung

A close-coupled toilet, where the cistern sits on the back of the pan, is the simplest and most forgiving to fit. A back-to-wall pan hides the cistern inside a furniture unit or a boxed-in section, so the boxing becomes part of the job. A wall-hung toilet hangs off a steel frame concealed in a built-out wall, with the flush plate set into the surface; it looks clean and frees the floor, but it is a small building job rather than a swap.

We are happy to fit a toilet you have bought. Send the make and model before work starts so the outlet height, fixings and cistern connections can be checked against your existing pipework.

Basins and vanity units

Basins and vanity units usually change at the same time as the toilet, and fitting them together keeps the plumbing disruption to one visit. A vanity unit hides the pipework and adds storage, but the waste and supply positions inside it have to line up with the existing pipes, so the unit is checked against the room before it is ordered.

Wall-hung basins need a solid fixing into the wall, which means checking the wall construction first. Pedestal basins are more forgiving and suit a simple like-for-like refresh.

Repair or replace

Not every troublesome toilet needs replacing. A cistern that keeps running, a flush that needs holding down, or a drip at the back of the pan can often be cured with a new valve, seal or connector, which is quicker and cheaper than a swap. Our guide to leaking toilets explains how to tell which part has failed.

Replacement makes more sense when the pan or cistern is cracked, the glaze is stained through, parts are no longer available, or the toilet has needed several repairs. The toilet replacement cost guide explains what affects the size of the job.

What we need to know before quoting

Photographs of the existing toilet from the front and side, a note of whether the waste pipe exits through the wall or the floor, and the make and model of anything you have already bought are enough for most quotes. If the toilet is leaking at the base, say so, because the floor underneath will need checking and that changes the scope.

Frequently asked questions

Can I fix a toilet without calling a plumber?

Some faults are safe to check yourself, such as a loose flush button or a fill valve that needs adjusting, and our leaking toilet guide explains the checks. Anything involving disconnecting the waste, removing the pan or working on the supply is better left to someone with the tools and experience.

How long does a toilet replacement take?

A like-for-like close-coupled swap is usually done within a few hours. Wall-hung frames, boxing, waste alterations or floor repairs extend that, and the written quote confirms the timescale.

Do you take the old toilet away?

Yes. Removing and disposing of the old toilet and cistern is part of the job.

Can you fit a toilet and basin at the same time?

Yes. Combining them keeps the water off once and lets the pipework for both be checked together, which usually makes the visit more efficient.
