Small Bathroom Renovation

Renovating small bathrooms, en suites and cloakrooms across Essex, Kent and East London, with layouts, fittings and finishes chosen to make the most of tight rooms.

Small rooms reward good planning

A small bathroom has no room for mistakes: a door that clashes with the basin, a toilet too close to the wall or a shower screen that cannot open all make the room worse to use every day. We plan the layout on paper at the quote visit, checking clearances and door swings before anything is ordered.

The good news is that a small room is often the quickest and most affordable bathroom to renovate well. Less floor, less wall and fewer fittings mean the budget goes on quality rather than quantity. Our bathroom renovation cost guide explains how the budget splits.

Fittings that make space

Short-projection toilets, corner and slimline basins, and walk-in showers with a single fixed panel all free up floor area without losing function. A wall-hung basin or vanity keeps the floor visible, which makes the room feel larger, and a heated towel rail replaces a radiator that eats wall space.

If the room is a former cupboard or under-stairs space, our cloakroom and downstairs toilet page covers that specific job.

Tiles, colour and light

Light colours and larger format tiles with fewer grout lines make a small room feel calmer and more open, while a single feature wall adds interest without closing the space in. Good lighting matters more in a small room than a large one, and ventilation has to work hard in a compact space, so an effective extractor fan is worth planning in.

Our guide to choosing bathroom tiles covers sizes and finishes for smaller rooms in more detail.

Keeping the layout or changing it

Keeping the toilet, basin and shower on their existing services keeps the plumbing simple and the cost down. Moving them can transform an awkward room, but it adds pipework and making good, so we talk through what the change buys you before recommending it.

Where a bath is rarely used, swapping it for a walk-in shower is the single biggest space gain in a small bathroom. Our bath to shower conversion page covers the process.

How the work runs

Strip out, plumbing, plastering, tiling and finishing are all carried out by our own team, so the stages follow each other without gaps. In a small room we work tidily because there is nowhere to hide mess, and the room is left clean at the end of each day. Quotes are free and in writing, and the finished work carries our 1-year workmanship warranty. Call 01268 206409 or send photographs through the quote form.

En suites and awkward shapes

En suites are the most common small bathrooms we renovate, and they bring their own challenges: sloping ceilings in loft conversions, narrow footprints in older terraces and plumbing routes through bedroom floors. Each one is solvable with the right layout, and the quote visit is where those options get worked through.

For a room being created from scratch rather than renovated, our en suite installation page covers building one from bare walls.

Frequently asked questions

What is the smallest room you can fit a bathroom into?

A toilet and basin can fit into a surprisingly small cupboard; adding a shower needs more room. We measure and check the drainage at the quote visit before advising.

Should a small bathroom have a bath or a shower?

If the bath is used, keep it; if not, a walk-in shower frees up the most space. We talk through how your household actually uses the room before recommending.

Is a small bathroom cheaper to renovate?

Usually, yes, because there is less of everything. Fitting choices still move the price, and we quote each stage in writing so you can see the split.

Can you fit storage into a small bathroom?

Yes. Vanity units, mirrored cabinets and recessed shelving between studs all add storage without taking floor space, and we plan them in at the layout stage.
