En suite bathroom installation
Adding a new en suite to a bedroom or loft, or rebuilding a tired one, with drainage, water supply, ventilation and tiling planned as one job.
Where an en suite can go
The most workable spots are the ones near existing plumbing. A corner of the main bedroom that backs onto the family bathroom keeps pipe runs short. A section of a large landing can work where the soil stack is close. Loft conversions usually include an en suite in the plan, and getting the drainage route agreed early avoids compromises later.
The honest first question is not whether an en suite fits, but whether it fits well. A shower room you cannot turn round in helps nobody, so we measure and sketch the layout before quoting rather than promising from a photograph.
Drainage and water supply
The toilet is the deciding factor. It needs a route to the soil pipe with enough fall, and the further the new room is from the stack, the more thought that route needs. Basin and shower wastes are smaller and easier to run. Hot and cold supplies are taken from the nearest suitable pipework, and the pressure is checked so the new shower performs properly rather than trickling.
All of this is investigated before the quote, because the drainage answer shapes what the room can sensibly contain.
Small en suite ideas that work
Compact rooms reward simple choices. A corner shower with a sliding or fixed panel door saves the swing space a hinged door needs. A wall-hung or short-projection basin keeps floor area clear. Large format, light coloured tiles with minimal pattern make a small room feel calmer than busy mosaics, and a mirrored cabinet adds storage without another unit.
Our bathroom tiling page covers the tiling side, and shower installation explains tray and enclosure choices for tight spaces.
Ventilation in a room without a window
Most en suites are internal rooms, so the extractor fan does the work a window would. We size and position the fan to clear steam from the shower area, duct it properly to the outside rather than into the loft, and fit an overrun timer or humidity sensor so the room keeps drying after the light goes off. Poor extraction is the main reason en suites develop mould, so it is specified as part of the job, not left as an afterthought.
How an en suite build runs
The work follows the same order as any bathroom: first fix plumbing and any studwork, boarding, waterproofing in the wet zone, tiling, second fix of the suite, then sealing, lighting and decoration. Because the room is next to a bedroom, we sheet and protect the route through the house, keep dust controlled and tidy up at the end of each day.
Rebuilding an existing en suite follows the same stages with a strip out first. Our bathroom fitting page describes the full process, and the bathroom renovation cost guide explains what drives the price of each stage.

Frequently asked questions
How much space do I need for an en suite?
A workable shower room with a toilet and basin needs enough clear floor to use each fitting comfortably. Bring us the measurements and we will tell you honestly whether the space works before any commitment.
Can an en suite go in a loft?
Yes, and it is a common part of a loft conversion. The drainage route and the water pressure at that height are the two things to establish early, and we check both.
Will an en suite need building regulations approval?
New drainage and electrical work have requirements attached. We will tell you what applies to your project once we have seen the property.
Can you rebuild my existing en suite?
Yes. We strip out the old fittings, check the plumbing and waterproofing behind them, and rebuild the room to the current layout or a new one.
