Electric Shower Installation
Fitting and replacing electric showers across Essex, Kent and East London, with the electrical supply checked and handled correctly, and the plumbing, tiling and sealing completed by one team.
Why choose an electric shower
An electric shower heats cold mains water as it passes through the unit, so it works independently of the boiler and the hot water cylinder. If the boiler fails, the shower still runs. That independence makes electric units a practical choice for main bathrooms, en suites and rental properties where a reliable shower matters.
They also suit homes where the hot water system struggles to feed a strong mixer shower, because the electric unit only needs a cold feed. We check your water pressure and electrical supply before recommending one, and our shower installation page covers mixer options for comparison.
The electrical side, handled properly
An electric shower is one of the most demanding appliances in the house, and it needs a suitable dedicated supply. Electrical work in a bathroom is notifiable under Part P of the Building Regulations, so it must be carried out or signed off by a qualified electrician.
Where the existing circuit is adequate, a replacement can connect to it. Where a new circuit or heavier cable is needed, that is identified at the quote visit and listed in the written quote, never discovered halfway through the job.
Replacing an existing electric shower
Like-for-like replacement is usually a short job: isolate the supply and water, remove the old unit, check the cable and the pipework, fit and commission the new one. Units differ in where the water and cable entries sit, so we match or adapt the fixings neatly and reseal around the unit.
If the old shower leaked behind the unit, we check the wall before fitting the new one. Damaged plaster or failed sealing is put right rather than covered up, because a new shower on a damaged wall is the old problem waiting to return.
New installations and tiling
A new electric shower where none existed involves the cold water feed, the electrical supply and the finish around the unit. Where the shower goes over a bath or into a new enclosure, the wall finish, sealing and any tiling are part of the same job rather than separate visits.
Our bathroom tiling page covers the tiling work, and the bathroom fitting page explains how a shower fits into a wider refit.
What affects the cost
The unit itself, whether the existing circuit is suitable, the length of any new cable run and the amount of tiling or making good all move the price. We quote each stage in writing so you can see what the electrical work and the finishing each contribute.
Quotes are free, and the finished work carries our 1-year workmanship warranty. To discuss an electric shower, call 01268 206409 or send photographs of the bathroom through the quote form.
Electric showers in rented homes
Landlords often choose electric showers because they keep working when the boiler does not, which means fewer urgent calls about no hot water. A robust unit with simple controls also stands up well to tenant use, and replacement is quick when a unit eventually wears out.
Between tenancies we can check the shower as part of wider refresh work, so the bathroom goes back on the market with everything tested and sealed. Our planned and reactive maintenance page covers ongoing rental upkeep.
Frequently asked questions
How much does electric shower installation cost?
It depends on the unit, whether the existing circuit is suitable, the cable run and any tiling or making good. We quote in writing after checking the supply and the room.
Does an electric shower need a qualified electrician?
Yes. Bathroom electrical work is notifiable under Part P, so the wiring is carried out or signed off by a qualified electrician as part of the job.
Can you replace my old electric shower with a more powerful one?
Often, but a higher kilowatt unit can need a heavier cable and breaker. We check the existing circuit first and tell you honestly what the upgrade involves.
Do electric showers work with low water pressure?
They need adequate mains cold pressure to run properly. We test the pressure at the quote visit, and where it is low we talk through the alternatives.
